In response to rising community concerns lobbied by Chinatown Partnership about dimly lit, highly traversed Canal Street, the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) installed 19 supplemental illuminated “pedestrians arms” on lampposts along the busy corridor from Broadway to the Bowery. The new radiant extensions have increased sidewalk illumination and safety and allayed security worries.
