NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENTS

Holiday Lights

Transforming Chinatown into a warmer and more welcoming neighborhood at night.

Among the most beloved of Chinese flowers, plum blossom symbolizes the winter and blooms most vibrantly in the winter months.

In what has become a neighborhood tradition, plum blossom-inspired garlands greet and welcome visitors to Chinatown.

Chinatown Partnership also worked with the NYC Department of Transportation to brighten up Canal Street sidewalks with "pedestrian arms" lights.

Supplemental Lights

In response to rising community concerns lobbied by Chinatown Partnership about dimly lit, highly traversed Canal Street, the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) installed 19 supplemental illuminated “pedestrians arms” on lampposts along the busy corridor from Broadway to the Bowery.

The new radiant extensions have increased sidewalk illumination and safety and allayed security worries.
